1018 Steel is one of the most commonly produced alloys of the "cold-rolled" steels. It is often referred to as "low carbon" or "mild steel". It offers good hardening properties, fair machining, and can be readily brazed or welded. It is considered a medium strength steel alloy. "Cold Finished" refers to the process that rolls the steel to removes oxidation from the steel leaving a smooth, oiled finish with sharp defined corners.
